Event is a
visit to a World War II Memorial Monument and Kiosk near the border of
Arizona and California. On February 19th, 1942 President Franklin
D. Roosevelt, under Executive Order 9066, interned 120,000 Japanese U.S.
citizens during WWII in Encampments around the United States.
Between May 1942 and November 1945 nearly
18,000 men, women and children were incarcerated in three [3] camps in
the Poston area. The monument, a 30 foot high pillar was designed
by architect Ray Takata and dedicated in 1992. The 12 small
pillars arranged around the central larger pillar form a sundial.
The site includes a museum along with other WWII artifacts of interest.
The Monument is just south of Poston, about 28 miles north of
Ehrenberg. Check it out at: www.postonalliance.org
